Overwatch Winter Championship 2017: THE FINAL – Preview

It has been a long hard slog, but we’re finally here. Two teams have risen above the rest to make it to the final, the corpses of the defeated litter the wayside. Some say that if you listen closely, you can still hear caster Dezachu’s cackle echoing up from the well on Ilios. It was a brave bunch that made it to the knockout stages, DU Like Jazz (University of Durham) and Underwatch (University of York) being the pick of the rest. However, they too fell to our finalists. Without further ado, we’d like to announce the Winter Championship final will be:

UoB Zeus

(University of Birmingham)

Cambridge University NUEL Team

(University of Cambridge)

Both teams have a history of being nearly-men. UoB Zeus came third in last year’s Winter Championship, before coming second in Spring despite leading the Swiss stage. Summer was no different as they came second to now eliminated Bjorn to Win. Coming out of the semis, they made a powerful statement in defeating last year’s finalists DU Like Jazz. They’ll be out to prove that after two near misses, their favourite dessert is not apple crumble (apologies, terrible gag, hopefully they won’t choke on it).

Cambridge University NUEL Team have never made it past the semis and so find themselves in uncharted territory. A fifth place finish in last year’s competition, as well as two fourth places means that this will be their first chance at earning silverware. They’ve arguably made more of a statement as they managed to beat the Swiss stage winners and arguable favourites Underwatch while also defeating the Summer Championship winners Bjorn to Win en route to the final.

To watch the final, tune in here on the NUEL Twitch channel at 7:15pm. You won’t want to miss this tantalising clash.
