With the start of Season 6 fast approaching we’d like to take this chance to inform you about some of the behind the scenes changes. You’ve probably been wondering when everything is kicking off so we thought we’d provide an update.
Unfortunately we’ve had a sad and recent setback in that our Head of Tech, Tom, has had to step down from the NUEL due to health reasons. Tom has been with the NUEL from the start and has been instrumental in making what we do so successful, his hard work and tireless dedication to making the NUEL run probably goes largely unoticed to you but for us internally he’s going to be a massive loss. We want to publicly wish him well and all the best for the future.
As you’ll have probably seen we’ve got a shiny new website running when you visit thenuel.com right now. Tom, Michael and Derry have been working incredibly hard over the summer to get things ready to launch for the new season, but as I hope you can appreciate we haven’t been able to get everything finished in time under the circumstances. We’ve been figuring out what the best course of action going forward is, if you’ve been around for a few years you’ll remember The Great Server Fire of 2014 and The Bloody Website Crash of 2015 as fondly as we do, so we’re in the process of figuring out how we’re going to avoid Servexit: 2016.
We’ll explain fully in due course what we’re going to do but we want to make it clear that the tournaments are going ahead as planned. Team registering and signups will be pushed back until next week (3rd October), we can announce the start dates for each tournament however and give you some exciting news: we’re doing Overwatch this year!
Tournament dates:
Game | Start date/tournament day | Facebook group |
League of Legends | Sunday 16th October | NUEL LoL |
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive | Monday 17th October | NUEL CS:GO |
Hearthstone | Tuesday 25th October | NUEL HS |
Overwatch | Thursday 27th October | NUEL OW |
Rocket League | Sunday 19th November (one off cup) | NUEL RL |
We’ll have a detailed announcement on prizes, formats and what’s exciting about each of the tournaments when signups open.
In the mean time, we are genuinely sorry for keeping you waiting and messing you around like this. We’ll be working hard to ensure that it’s all worth it in the end! Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks’ time.
